Blurb
Julia has the chance to become one of the vampires of the Blue Moon House. Before being accepted, however, she must prove herself to each of the vampires, and each has their own exacting cost. Ranging from lesbian, to being forced, to physical torture, she is pushed to her breaking point time and again. Eventually her perseverance pays off and she crosses from submissive to dominant and vampire.

Excerpt:

Julia’s eyes wandered the room as Harry secured both her arms behind her back with soft ropes. The dark velvet padding that insulated the walls from sound, the racks that held implements and toys, the giant bed that was before her - the room had become familiar after nearly a year, as had his cool touch and the sight of the scars on her pelvic bones and thighs. Their first night together had been one that rivaled all others. The second time, however, was the night she’d never forget, the night she’d signed herself over as his submissive and was sworn never to share with anyone not associated with this House what happened within. The first time he bit her, tasted her blood, the pain and pleasure had been beyond her comprehension. She had been free to leave, as she had always been, but she must keep their secret, the vampires of Blue Moon House.
She hadn’t left. She’d come back to Harry weekly, to have him bring her more pain, push her harder, test her soft limits, come nearer her hard ones. He had torn into her, burned her, bit her, cut her, and fucked her for hours and hours, never stopping until she begged for it with her safeword. She had been sure he would stop sooner, that he would see how hurt she was, how badly she needed rest, but he never did. He hurt her more, fucked her more violently, choked the breath from her.
That was the only other time she had a reprieve without crying “maximum,” when she lost consciousness at his hands. It had happened many times, more in the last few weeks. Once he had actually drank from her until the blood loss made her faint. Only once. Blue Moon House had victims, but they were few and far between. The last, she had learned had been years ago. Accidents weren’t uncommon in the BDSM community, and those here were less frequent than other dominants had. Unfortunately, here they were fatalities. She had survived that night, spending the next day taking iron supplements, eating and drinking what Harry brought her, building her strength back enough for work on Monday. She was a little woozy walking into the office that morning, but nothing unbearable, and even that had passed with the workweek until she was eager to return to Blue Moon House on Friday night.
Although she’d only met Harry, Julia knew there were more vampires in Blue Moon House and had visited with some of the other submissives over breakfast in the morning, sharing stories and showing scars. Tonight she would be at the mercy of one of the others.
Harry tested his knots and then pushed gently for her to kneel. She obeyed the command without hesitation. “She knows your limits and your safe word. She will explain when she comes.”
“She?” Julia’s eyes went wide. Lesbian sex was a soft limit for her, and one Harry had tested by bringing another submissive in with her. This time, however, Julia had no warning and the woman would be her Dominant.
“Silence,” a female voice said from behind her. Julia didn’t know if Harry had left or was still behind her, but she bit her tongue, her lip trembling. “You will listen and not speak.” The woman moved to sit on the bed in front of Julia. The submissive kept her eyes down, on the woman’s bony ankles and pale white skin. She wasn’t wearing shoes.
“Look up. I want to see that you understand me.” Obediently, Julia raised her head, taking in the red corset and panties the woman wore, her long black hair falling over her shoulders and her brilliant, sapphire blue eyes. “You know what we are. Harrold has made a request. Of necessity, we keep our numbers small, but he wants to keep you.”
Julia’s eyes widened and her mouth opened. “I-”
“Silence,” the woman reminded her. “I am Sophia, the eldest of us. It is for me to weigh this request, and for you to choose if you wish to join us or not. We would ask much of you. First, that you sever all ties with friends and family. If you choose to stay, these next weeks will be the last you see of them. You will be kept in seclusion for a decade or two I’ll long enough for everyone you know to have forgotten you or moved on. Second, that you become Dominant. We are occasionally submissive with each other. We were all submissive once. After all, to feed, we need the complete trust of our partner. You will have to know that you hold their life in your hand. You understand.” It wasn’t a question, and Julia didn’t answer in either case, but her face surely showed her understanding and continued disbelief. “The last is that you live with us, forever. You may come and go, work outside the House after your seclusion, but you would be part of our family, part of us. To keep our secrets, we stay together. It is much to ask and much for you to give.”
Julia started to say that she would give it willingly, but Sophia held up a hand. “You need to think about it. There is much to consider, for you and for us. After all, we would like to know who is joining us.” Again, Julia understood. She knew why she was being given to each of them, but Sophia explained aloud. “How better to know the nature of a person than at the moment of complete surrender? Remember, for you will not be able to think about it now.” Sophia rose and moved behind Julia, taking her by the hair and pulling her to her feet.
Pressing Julia’s face to the bed, Sophia’s hand came down hard, making Julia wince at the stinging. Then there was burning as Sophia’s teeth broke the skin of Julia’s left buttock. Another spank and another bite.
“Tell me you are prepared,” Sophia demanded.
“I-I am,” Julia stammered. Harry had instructed her to take extra iron and over-hydrate in anticipation of being fed upon this weekend. She expected Sophia wouldn’t be the only one to bite her. All these bites were quick though, small blood loss. Julia was sure the purpose was to put Sophia’s saliva into the wounds. It had an aphrodisiac effect, making Julia start to sway her hips as she became hotter and wetter. Sophia indulged her, fingers stirring her pussy only to stop and spank her again for several minutes, long enough for the edge of pleasure to recede into pain. Then Sophia would bite again and start fondling.
The spanking was followed by a more thorough fucking, and then by a flogging. Most recently Sophia had used a wand, vibrating Julia to orgasm. Julia was covered in sweat, shuddering. Her legs collapsed, and Sophia’s hands alone kept her from falling down. She replaced the wand with a new toy, a rabbit, held inside her by a harness. Sophia turned on the settings and held Julia’s legs as the toy began to rotate and vibrate. When Julia clenched and the toy jarred, slowing its turning, Sophia’s eyebrows raised. However, as soon as Julia relaxed at all the straps pulled it back in. Julia bit her tongue, pulled against the ropes on her arms, screamed freely, but the toy didn’t budge, didn’t cease. After a while, Sophia turned up the setting.
Sophia’s blue eyes filled Julia’s swimming vision. Her last command had been to look at her. Her throat was hoarse from screaming in pleasure, in pain; her chest was heaving with the effort of her vaginal contractions, pulling her diaphragm, her thighs; all of her was consumed by the continued climax. Julia whimpered, licking her lips, her mouth dry.
“There you are,” Sophia murmured and the grinding suddenly stopped. Julia fell, sliding to the floor around Sophia’s legs. The vampire picked Julia up easily and laid her on the bed Julia had been leaning against. “You are beautiful, Julia. Remember, you don’t have to join us to continue to come here. This is not an ultimatum, only a choice.” Julia sighed as Sophia slipped an ice chip between her lips. Holding it in her teeth, Julia let the liquid run over her tongue and down her throat while Sophia wiped her down with a wet cloth.
Julia was nearly asleep, but she heard Harry speak with Sophia. “So?”
“Who do you plan to give her to next?” Sophia asked. The cloth swept between Julia’s breasts, then under her arm.
“Jocelyn.”
“You plan to go through all the women first, despite her discomfort?”
“If she decides not to join us, I’d rather know sooner than later.”
If Sophia answered, Julia never heard it.

Excerpt:
Excerpt:
I stepped off the little twin engine plane, feeling the first flutter of nervousness. Though I loved my Granny Nan dearly, I hadn’t actually been home once since I started my lengthy college experience nearly ten years ago. Part of the reason I’d chosen to attend school nearly two thousand miles away was because I was living in the now, not sitting in a retirement home waiting to die and talking about the good old days. I told myself the night I left that I would not go to one more funeral. I would not attend one more wake and I would not read one more obituary. For those of you who don’t know, these make up some very intoxicating pastimes for the elderly, and though the current crew of the Manor was pretty healthy, I wasn’t going to risk sticking around to find out if I was wrong. Up ’til now I believed they’d had their lives, so it was my turn and, unlike my Granny Nan and a long line of her predecessors, I wasn’t wasting mine on them. A decade of wasted reality had altered that perspective and I found out the hard way where my fate truly lay.
I snorted as I grabbed my pink leopard-print suitcase. It was vintage Louie and a gift from Vie on the night of my high school graduation. It was the only old thing I owned and I only kept it out of respect for Vie and her history of traveling around the world with it. Otherwise, old things had an expiration date just like people, and since I had yet to make my own history I refused to own anything that the factory had more than one of.
Walter was waiting for me in the house car. The car was a vintage nineteen twenty-three Mercedes-Benz. It was a very cool car but not very practical in eastern Massachusetts during the winter months. Fortunately, tonight was a humid eighty-seven degree June evening.
I tried not to react to how shockingly old Walter had grown in the ten years I’d been away. He grumbled something about moving my ass because The Wheel was about to start. The Wheel – better known to the rest of the world as Wheel of Fortune – made that small half hour slot a religious gathering for its residents. I wasn’t sure if it was all the lights and glitter or if it was Vanna White, an eighth vampire by the way, strutting her stuff and pressing buttons, but the residents of Maple Lane didn’t miss it. Ever. Events were scheduled around that sacred half hour, even seeing me off when I’d left the Manor for the last time ten years ago. I remember walking out the door with Granny Nan and waving over my shoulder as they all sat hypnotized by the glowing television screen. Nobody even moved.
“Nice to see you too, Walter,” I said sweetly. Walter’s appearance might have aged, but his unwavering grumpy scowl was steadfast as ever.
He grumbled again and peered out at the road through impressive Coke bottle glasses.
Walter had always been a man of few words, but since I’d left, even those words had become non-existent. Werewolves are nothing if not a loyal bunch, and to Walter I’d abandoned them because I didn’t respect or love them anymore. At least that’s what Granny Nan told me when he refused to talk to me on the phone.
I would have continued to push for conversation, but I was too busy gripping the door handle for the duration of the ride. His vision had been pretty bad ten years ago, and I was pretty sure he was now legally blind. I would have offered to drive, but that would have entailed him pulling to the side of the road and I wasn’t sure if I should risk that proximity to the ditch or the telephone poles.
We screeched to a halt in the Manor’s driveway safe and sound, if you didn’t count my elevated blood pressure, and Walter got out and went inside without so much as a hello. With shaky hands I fumbled the door open and angled out of the low-riding antique automobile. I lugged my bag out of the tiny backseat and looked up at the not-so-splendid wonder of Maple Lane. I blinked up several times at the ramshackle mansion and sighed. Even in the twilight I could see it needed paint and a new roof. The lawn needed serious help, and the overall appearance of the house was that it looked haunted. Ironically, the one thing Maple Lane lacked was a ghost.
The door slammed behind me, and I cringed at the noise. But everyone was seated in the parlor staring slack-jawed and wide-eyed at the colorful screen as the ratcheting sound of the sacred wheel was spun. I couldn’t help but smile at the sight before me. Vie sat in the faded orange, overstuffed wingback chair she’d dubbed “the throne.” Walter had plunked himself down in a beat-up brown La-Z-Boy less than four feet from the screen so he could see, and Willow and Alex shared the couch. Both had their legs crossed in lotus position.
I waited patiently for a commercial before announcing a friendly hello to everyone.
Walter ignored me, Willow nodded, Alex flashed me a peace sign, and Vie sighed and rose to her feet to give me a welcoming hug. She patted my hair and whispered how sorry she was that my Nan had passed so unexpectedly.
Willow and Alex scooted to the ends of the couch so I could sit between them and suddenly I was a little girl again, watching The Wheel with my strange extended family. I enjoyed those few moments of remembered bliss until Jeopardy came on and Alexander clicked off the television.
“So are you going to sell this old heap?” Walter snapped suddenly. This was rude even for Walter.
“Why would I sell this place? It’s our home.”
“Walter!” Vie said sharply.
“We’ve got a right to know what she’s going to do, don’t we?” Walter countered.
When nobody else spoke and every eye in the house focused on me expectantly, I cleared my throat. “I love this old house.”
“How do you plan to maintain it?” Walter asked. “Your grandmother sank most of her savings into your college experience. I supported her at first, thinking maybe one day you’d wise up and get your head out of the clouds, but you’ve managed to be the only person on Earth to attend college for a decade without getting a single degree in anything. How does one do that, exactly?”
One drops out of classes before completing them, I thought to myself.
“Walter!” Vie hissed again.
“No, woman. She needs to hear the truth of it. If she’s ever going to grow up she needs to be treated like an adult.”
Vie hissed at him and it sounded like a protective mother cat standing over her kitten.
The elderly werewolf snarled back at her, but broke into a cough and wheezed from the effort.
I sighed as I waited patiently for Walter’s temper and coughing fit to dissipate. “No, he’s right.” I nodded to the group. “I hadn’t realized that Granny had sacrificed so much for my schooling, but it’s time for me to grow up.”
“Too little, too late,” Walter barked. “This place is too far gone for some flighty little girl without a degree – or a job, I might add – to fix it. You’ll never get this old dump up and running again and the longer you wait, the lower its market value will go. Time is no longer on your side, young lady.”
I narrowed my eyes at his challenge. “We’ll see about that, you old dog,” I said, throwing a little of his venom back at him.
He glared his optically enlarged eyes right back at me. “You haven’t finished a thing in your life, little girl. I don’t expect the biggest challenge of it to be the first thing you manage to complete.”
I crossed my arms. “I’ll take your bet.”
There was an audible ugly gasp as everyone in the room sucked in a breath. My grandmother had very few rules in her house, and “no betting” was number one on that list. But Granny Nan wasn’t here.
“If I do get this place up and running again, what do I get in return?” I asked the group.
“How about the satisfaction of knowing you’ve finally accomplished something?” Walter sneered.
“How about that collection of baseball cards you keep under your bed?” I countered with a raised eyebrow.
Then I looked at Vie. “And I want Marilyn’s shoes.”
I looked to the wizard next. “Alex…you’ve got to shave your beard and cut your hair if I do this, and, – ” I turned to Willow, who reeked of peppermint schnapps, “ – I want you to stop drinking before noon. How’s that sound?”
“What do we get in return?” Walter argued.
“How about the satisfaction of knowing you have a place to live and a bed to sleep in at night?” I shot back.
Walter thought on it long and hard. “We need to come up with a time frame to decide if we’re just fighting a losing battle or if you’re here for the long haul.”
“A year,” I said.
Walter snorted. “The way the housing market is crashing I wouldn’t give you a month before you decide it’s too hard and quit.”
“Six months,” Vie interjected. “We have to give her a fighting chance to actually do something.”
“We’ll vote on it!” Willow announced suddenly in her soft little voice.
In the end I got six months, but I think it was only because half of them hoped to be dead and gone by the time my trial period was up. The deal was I had to improve the house and catch up on the bills.
Oh, and not quit.

The Vampire's Witch by Kiki Howell
Book 1 in the At War In The Willows Trilogy
Buy-Link: http://www.amazon.com/The-Vampires-Witch-Willows-Book-ebook/dp/B007NZRKQW

Blurb: The Willows is a resort town run by vampires, werewolves and witches. Here, their true identities are kept secret from humans, and intimate relations between the individual clans are strictly forbidden.

When it becomes known that the vampire Amberlyn has fallen in love with the werewolf Kane, the tedious line of their co-existence has been crossed. Caught in the crossfire of this revelation, Drake, the vampire clan leader and Amberlyn’s maker, is killed along with an innocent witch. These deaths spark a series of horrific events leading to an all out War In The Willows.

Unexpected close encounters, bodies ripe with need, and situations beyond their control lead to forbidden relationships. Now three vampires, a witch, a werewolf and a human must ride along the edges of the rules. They will attempt once unthinkable romantic entanglements despite all those who oppose their relationships, while fighting for their lives as well.

With the Willows full of violence and bloodshed, meetings and magic amiss, will the clans ever be able to find peace among them again? Or, will this war destroy the Willows?

In Book 1, Amberlyn’s vampire brother, Isaac, always one to kick ass first and deal with the consequences later, kidnaps a witch, Winter. He intends to find out what type of retaliation the witch clan is planning against the vampires and werewolves. In doing so, he finds so much more then he bargained for.
Excerpt:
One draw of blood into his mouth, and her hips violently trembled. She cried out, but rather than sensing her pleasure, he felt she was casting a spell on him. Her magic poured over him, through him like blood through his veins. He felt her climax as it traveled deep into his groin, filling the area with pleasure. His cock was rock hard, waves of contractions flowed through him. Thoughts, not his, entered his head, my Goddess, Isaac Roberts, just made me come! Fuck me Isaac.
He pulled back. Staring at her, he only realized he’d left the wound marks open on her thigh when blood dripped onto his leg. He licked over tiny holes to seal her flesh, to let it start to heal, before turning back to confront her.
“You did that on purpose. You pushed thoughts into my head.”
“Yes. Mind games. I’m a witch. I’m brilliant at them.”
“But, so easily. Can you hear my thoughts?”
“If I wanted to, I could control them. You vamps don’t fear us for nothing. But, I wouldn’t do that to you. I think you know that. I think you can feel enough of me, of my magic, to know I’m not a threat to you.”
Isaac nodded, looking at her body, her skin glowing in the light of the few lamps that were still on. He realized he’d slept with the light on last night; his face exposed no less. As well, he’d slept like the dead with a stranger in his bed, unprotected. However, the realization brought him pure power rather than vulnerability. Usually, he cared little for life, but right now, he wanted to live it. Question was, could he live with that kind of change?
Like a lion over its prey, he came over her, his body feeling heavy as it met her softness from head to toe. He kissed her gently – for the first time – taking his time to savor the feel of her lips on his, her tongue rubbing along his fangs.
“I taste not only my own arousal, but my own blood.”
“Damn, that was one sexy sentence.” He smiled down at her. And, damn but he could get used to this. A connection, love at first sight, mortal enemies, he just could no longer deny or resist any of it no matter how dangerous or stupid it was.
Moving his hips, he nestled his between hers. The hard, tight, head of his cock met her warm, wet, softness.
“Am I too cold?” he whispered, as he felt her shudder again.
“No, not too cold.”
When she smiled, his heart – the one that no longer beat, but lay dead in his chest – felt like it came alive for one moment. He reached for the blanket on the bed and pulled it over them, hoping to keep some of her body heat in it. He felt deliciously warm. She made him feel so alive, like a true man again. He couldn’t control her thoughts and didn’t know how to send his own to her, as she’d just done to him, so he spoke instead. His fear of rejection outweighed by his pleasure.
“You make me feel so alive again, I swear my heart beat. I feel your warmth, not only in your blood running through me, but every place we touch. For so long, I’ve hardened myself from the world, taking some physical pleasures, but denying any existence of humanity inside myself. That is, until last night when I held you in my arms, carried you across town. You saved me, ten years ago and now. I didn’t know it until just this moment.”
“You’ve saved me too.”
“From what?”
“My solitary existence, even if for just one night if that is all this can be.”
He swept his lips over hers, their smiles coinciding with each other. He entered her then, pushing his length inside her body, feeling her inner walls adjust around him. She practically purred. Their initial slow rhythm became frenzied quickly. Her inner walls gripped him as he moved in and out of her. Her fingers dug into his back. He felt her power swirl around them again, and her voice came across clear in his mind.
Bite me, Isaac. It’s all right. I know you want to.
He did. His fangs piercing her neck sent him over the edge. As her blood flowed into his mouth again, his seed shot into her – void of life, but strong. She quivered around him, tightened and loosened, milking him of every last drop of his come as she came herself.
After healing her wounds with his tongue, he bunched the blanket more in between their chests to protect her from his chill. He moaned when he slipped from inside her. He knew though, that the lost connection would have been worse, if some part of her didn’t still envelope him with her energy.
“Better than I ever dreamed it could be,” she said as she looked up into his eyes. He knew they were still dark, but she didn’t look away. “I could probably heal your face now, with a spell, a few herbs. Not that I care what you look like, you’re beautiful. But, I feel guilty, like I might have done this to you.” Tears slipped from her eyes, tiny knives into his heart, which was just now coming alive.
“No. Don’t feel like that. You’ve already healed something in me that I didn’t care until now was even broken.”
A sound in the distance, the feeling of his family drawing near, had him moving her with lightening speed into the closet; the only hiding space in the whole damn place save for the bathroom.
“There is a door behind this wall. Get in there so they don’t feel you. I’m sorry.”
He left her there, saying something like a prayer to god only knew who, that she would be safe – remain hidden. Although, he knew already, he would protect her to his death. A vampire and a witch? No different than my sister with a werewolf? This was his last thought as the main door opened, and he shoved her nightgown and what was left of her panties under the sheet on the bed.

Excerpt
Growling, he placed his hands around her buttocks and jerked her body to his dick, pressing his throbbing shaft into her belly, shifting his hips back and forth. “Hmmm… You’ve teased me too long girl.” He kissed her savagely, forcing his tongue past her lips for a shameless moment ravaging her mouth as his hands kneaded her ass with rough touches.
Her fingers entwined in his shaggy midnight locks, drawing them closer and forcing her sandals off to cascade to the floor. Amanda whimpered and ground her hips into his throbbing erection as her fingers danced down the heat of his neck.
As hungry as he had ever been, Jax dragged her body toward the outer wall, kicking his shoes off in the process. He pushed her against the counter roughly and allowed her feet to touch the floor. Fumbling, he found the button and zipper and his actions become that of a wild beast as he jerked her skirt down past her hips.
“Jax!”
He pushed the skirt to the floor and lifted her lithe body, kicking the material to the side. “What? Don’t you want me?”
“God yes!” Her hands jerked at his drawstring and freed his pulsing cock.
Grunting, he gripped the tiny slip of elastic that held her lacy purple thong and wrangled the saucy material down and off, the slight sound of the gauzy material ripping at his imploring touch sent shivers racing down his spine. He stared down at her glorious naked body and licked his lips, ready to consume every drop of her luscious cream.
One hand wrapped around his cock while the other cupped his balls, squeezing until he moaned. “Oh God, Jax…fuck me.”
Jax closed his eyes, relishing in the way her hands gripped and caressed, her nails scraping down the length of his shaft. Panting, his blood sizzled, searing every nerve ending as he heard the thumping of her heart beating in her chest and he could barely contain his manic actions. “Ummm...baby, you keep doing that and I just might impale you right here.”
Amanda giggled and began pulsing his cock up and down, sliding her hand from tip to base as her other hand traced circles around his swollen balls, first one and then the other, taking her time to enjoy the feel of him. Standing on her tiptoes, she pressed kisses into the heat of his neck, darting her tongue to taste his flesh.
Unable to hold back his desperate need any longer, he picked her up and sat her down on the counter, pushing her back against the tile wall and pressing her legs apart. Cupping her buttocks, he inched her forward until her ass was directly at the edge. “First baby, I taste your hot little pussy.” Grinning, he lowered his head and darted several short licks across the edge of her rosy clit.
“Ohohohoh….” Amanda laughed and wrapped her fingers around his shaggy locks, drawing his face in closer. “Sweet Jesus.”
He glided his tongue up and down her sizzling heat tasting the sweet ambrosia of her cream as she moaned, writhing with every lick. “You taste so damn good like fresh honey.”
Amanda tilted her head and closed her eyes. “God baby, lick me.”
Her wish was his command and his pleasure. Burying his face into her slick pussy, Jax licked in a manic state, sucking her clit between his teeth, biting down until she whimpered. Using his fingers, he danced in and out of her pussy as her muscles clenched around him, shivering at his invasion. He drove into her as deep as her body would allow as he continued his near assault on her pussy, licking her with frenetic motions, up and down from top to bottom. Her taste was nothing like he had ever experienced before, succulent and sweet.
Amanda moaned and opened her legs further apart, allowing him complete access. Panting, she struggled as she opened and closed her eyes. “Jax…I’m…oh shit, I can’t hold…it!” Raking her nails across his neck, her body jerked and pitched as her legs shook and closed around his head.
Jax thrust his tongue and finger inside in long driving motions, in and out as she milked and shimmied. “Cum baby, cum for me.” His motions almost frantic, he jerked her forward as the first wave of her climax rushed through her system thrashing her body up from the cold slice of the counter.
“Aaaahhhhhh…oooohhhhh…” Her head tossing from side to side, she grabbed and clawed struggling as he continued thrusting in and out. “Oh Jax…I…oh…shit!” Another wave stole her ragged whisper until the scream became a silent calling, an urgent begging.
He lapped her flowing juice, opening her slick folds to suckle every last drop. He held her quivering body until she stopped pulsing, nipping the tender flesh of her clit. Slowly, he raised his head and stared into her glassy eyes, rich with lust and ripe with continued need, matching his own almost brutal need to impale her. He shuddered realizing at that moment he was more beast than man.
Amanda’s eyes fluttered open and closed and finally open to stare into his as she continued panting, yet she reached for him. “Jax, fuck me.”
Jax sighed and raised his head, staring down at her, his vision clouded by the almost insanity of his crazed lust. Tipping his head, he lifted her hips and placed the tip of his blood-engorged cock just to her entrance. “I don’t think I can be gentle here, baby. I’m too fucking desperate to have you, to be inside.”
Amanda grabbed his arms as her eyes became smoky pools. “Don’t be.”

Genre: Fantasy Young Adult
Word-Count:
Tag-Line: The woman of tomorrow is forged by the girl of today

Summary:
My name is Trinity Liathain, typical human teenager to many. But reality is I’m a young fae, split between two very different worlds. Just as I find a guy who I can be myself with, my little corner of Blue Cove erupts in drama I’m not prepared for. The gauntlet to a war that shouldn’t be mine is at my door, bringing creatures that terrify and mesmerize me. I’m visited by ancient forces who for some reason, think I’m the answer to another dimension’s problems. They grant me tremendous power to protect myself. From what, you ask? If my short journey through life has taught me anything, it’s that the people closest to you, make the worst enemies.

Excerpt:

“Trinity, wait up!”
I rolled my eyes and soared faster down the coastal highway that ran the outer limits of Blue Cove, a seaside town filled with hidden magick and creatures of fairytales.
My mountain bike loved hills, or maybe that’s just me.
The wind in my hair, scents of saltwater and spring in the breeze infused me with feeling nothing else compared to. I tossed my long mane of fine, silvery blonde strands flowing in streamers behind me. I grinned over my shoulder. “Come on, Deebra, you can’t tell me this isn’t exhilarating.”
Deebra’s fingers hovered over the handbrake, ready to screech to a halt at the slightest hint of danger. “And what about after school, dragging these stupid bikes back up? Bet you won’t think the same then.”
“Worry about that at three o’clock!” To freak her out, I lifted my feet from the pedals, legs poised at forty-five degree angles. Her wordless screech was lost among the roar of a farming truck passing the opposite way. The atmosphere filled with bits of freshly cut hay, zinging around our heads like the wee fae who populate our horse ranch. “The moment is here, to make the most of the now. Won’t come again.”
“Thank the Goddess for small favors,” she grumbled.
“One day soon, I’ll succeed in giving your sense of adventure a serious remodeling.”
The Cobalt High School loomed before us, an educational white sentinel, highlighted by cerulean trim and endless hedging. Beyond the building, the ocean sparkled, a blanket of glittering sapphires and diamonds. I bypassed the ramp, jumping my front tire over the curb. My feet planted on the cement, screeching to a halt.
I swung off the bike, a spring to my step. Today was the day I’d take the plunge. Good or bad.
Slipping my bike into the rack, I looped my lock around the spokes, and spun the dial.
Deebra was nowhere in sight. I frowned to find myself alone. Slow poke.
The air chilled, despite the warm day. I vigorously rubbed my arms. I visually panned the street, gaze freezing on a figure standing beneath a group of cedars.
My heart skipped a beat. His face triggered a barely formed memory, as if from a dream—or nightmare. The shade congregated around him, pressing against the hem of his billowing cape.  I gawked at the strange clothes for spring. He shifted, revealing a broad chest covered in silver chainmail that glinted green fire. Fae metal? The length of his raven hair rivaled mine, the widow’s peak stark against his alabaster skin. Delicately pointed ears peeked down from the fall of his strands, the harsh slash of bangs cutting across his glowing, scarlet triple irises. Primal power crawled across the street toward me, the full shimmer marking him Dorchaign, a fae of the dark.
As if my brain split open, I massaged my temple. I remembered him.
“You’ve been following me,” I whispered.
He nodded. Winter wind cascaded over me. I shivered. “I’m coming for you, Trinity Liathain. Very soon.”
I was caught in the snare of a spider’s web, unable to look away.
Deebra rolled up beside me, gasping for breath. “You could wait for me, you know!” Her shrill words broke the spell. I stared across the street at the empty trees, trying to remember what had drawn my interest. “What you looking at?”
“Ahh. That’s a good question.” Why had I felt terrified? I tipped my head back, watching the powder blue sky dotted with dollops of creamy clouds. “Just daydreaming, I guess.”
Deebra chuckled nervously. “Girl, you’re going to break your neck one of these days. I swear your tires didn’t touch ground the whole way down.” She continued in a lower voice. “I felt your power.”
I tossed her an impervious glance. “Impossible. Mom keeps telling me I don’t have much of any sort of power, short of the ability to use glamour I have nothing considered useful.”
“Yeah, well, it’s been happening more and more. You don’t notice the little things, but I do. I don’t care what she says. You’re changing fast, dude,” she murmured. “Ever since she forced you into those magick lessons of hers. And you have to stop whatever it is you’re doing, especially if you can’t get any control over yourself.”
“I think you’re overreacting,” I replied quickly. “Mom is on me every day now to practice with her, tapping into this mythical greatness she believes lives inside of me. If I had anything, she’d know.” I paused. “I don’t get it, you know. She forbade us to use our magick at all, until we hit eighteen, unlike every fae we know. Why the abrupt change of heart?”
“Couldn’t tell you; she has no interest in teaching me anything. When she does let me sit in on the lessons, I can’t say a word, or disrupt your concentration.” Deebra shouldered her backpack with a grimace. I felt her pain. Our teachers demanded we carried a course load to and from home every day. Even for the fae with super strength, the burden became a little much. The humans had it rough. She cleared her throat. “Have you noticed Caron’s mood swings are getting way harsher?”
“Yeah. Dad started sleeping in the spare bedroom,” I muttered. Talking about the problems at home, even with Deebra—my very best friend—was disheartening. Wasn’t it enough that she lived with me, seeing day in and day out that our family life fell apart? Did she have to bring it up when I finally escaped? Thank the Goddess, our conversation was interrupted by a monstrous roar of an engine. One so finely tuned, so beautiful, it compared to the owner. The motorcycle turned into the parking lot, driver enclosed in leather and a full helmet.
Some said the owner of the motorcycle adhered to the bad boy mold to a capital T. I knew better. He turned into the empty parking spot closest to the bike rack. He slid the backpack from his shoulder, opened the zipper, and dug through the contents, while my heart skipped several beats.
Not because he was gorgeous. Because he was.
Today’s the day. The time I finally got a hold of myself, and stopped second guessing. Win or lose. To make the move, shifting my long standing friendship with my crush, into something else entirely.
Adrian O’Fearain: Goblin, daredevil, and general badass. Leagues above other guys, yet still approachable enough I could talk to him about anything. Our friendship went back to grade eight, when we shared half our classes. I crushed on him so hard, it was embarrassing. When he needed help in English—a subject I adored—I leapt at the chance. He’d showed up after school in black clothes and chains—an exercise in annoying his dad, a favored past time of his—radiating a lethal edge of a mankind’s nightmares that didn’t scare me in the slightest.
I was half Lochrann Pixie, which most people focused on, forgetting that my other half was much scarier. My dad was a Yaksha: an unpredictable, territorial Dorchaign fae, who guarded what was theirs to their last breath, by any means necessary.
Deebra brightened. “I think you’re actually drooling. But, he’s a Goblin. Maybe he likes slobbery girls. Makes them shiny toys. Guess, you’ll find out when you finally ask him out.”
“Shut up. Up until recently, he had a girlfriend,” I huffed. “Threw a wrench in the whole admitting my unrequited crush thing.”
“But, now he’s single. You better ask him quick. I overheard that horror doll creature, Fiona in the bathroom the other day, babbling about how she’s going to snatch him up,” she chirped. I scowled. “You might end up staying in the friend zone until the Earth flies into the sun.”
My courage meter drained. “What if he just wants to stay friends?”
She waved me off. “Girl, please, just please. The way he looks at you since he ditched the Goblin chick…just damn. If that walking, talking pin-up graced me with the attention he shows you, I’d totally jump onto his bike, and ride off into the sunset.”
             I grimaced. “Yeah, right.”
Adrian pulled off his glossy helmet, tucking it under his arm. His mismatched gaze—one blue eye, one green—met mine and sparkled. The metal skulls on his biker boots shined as he dismounted. He shook out his shoulder length blonde hair.
He smiled. He was so hot, I fumbled. I swore to the Great Goddess, my tongue swelled, and my throat closed. Sue me; I was a sappy girl sometimes.
“Why did they break up anyway? They were pretty tight for like a zillion years,” Deebra mused.
I breathed through my nose, out my mouth to calm my jangling nerves. Giving us his profile, he bent over the bike—did I mention gym is one of the classes we’ve shared? And we’d gone swimming at the lake by my house more times than I can count. Oh yeah, I’d seen enough for any sixteen year old girl’s imagination to handle. As he sauntered onto the sidewalk, his body rolled, the perfect grace of a predator. Leagues past any human. Something about being a Red Cap made him bigger, stronger, just more.
You can do this. Just a few little words. You can even blurt them out.
My heart slammed against my ribs so loud, I was positive everyone heard the erratic beat.
His grin was borderline feral. “Life’s too short to deal with some people’s drama, Deebra. Leave it at that.”
The backs of her ears reddened. She stared at her feet.
“Hello, Trinity.”
Goddess, he had a deep voice.
I smiled. “Hey.”
He towered over me, leaning down to my ear. His hot breath tickled my cheek. “By the way, I love your perfume. Pineapple, coconut?”
“Yes,” I said softly.
“Excellent choice. Not overpowering like so many girls like to bath themselves in. But, I already know you have great taste.”
My heart hammered a new level of erratic insanity. “Yeah, thanks.”
Adrian plucked a hair from my white spaghetti strap, fingers caressing me, allowing let the strand float away on the breeze. He started to say something when the bell rang. Regret flashed on his face. “I’ll see you in Computer Science?”
Somehow, I doubted that’s what was on his mind.
            “Wouldn’t miss it.”
